‘Public House’ at LFF Works in Progress
Last weekened Randan’s James Heath and director Martin Clark were in London, presenting their feature film ‘Public House’ at the BFI London Film Festival Works in Progress forum.
‘Public House’ was selected as one of eight feature projects to showcase at the event, which screened exclusive extracts from each project introduced by their filmmakers to an invited audience of international buyers, UK sales agents, and festival programmers, reflecting the increasing international reach of the festival.
The Works-in-Progress Showcase continues to support featured projects in breaking into the market for domestic and international audiences. Previous showcase titles that have enjoyed releases include Dionne Edwards’ Pretty Red Dress, Thomas Hardimann’s Medusa Deluxe, Malachi Smyth’s The Score, Stacey Gregg’s Here Before, and Ewen Spencer’s 8 Bar – The Evolution of Grime.
The 69th BFI London Film Festival took place from 8 to 19 October 2025, presenting a diverse programme of films, series, and immersive storytelling from around the world.
Still from Public House
Shot in a single location, Public House is a sequence of vignettes, some characters recurring and others not, just like real life.
A myriad of eccentric and troubled souls pass through, looking for a drink, solace, a conversation, someone to love, an audience, sex, an explanation, revenge, or just a place to be.
The film delves deeper than the sum of it’s parts, asking existential questions. How did we end up here? Why do we do what we do? Should we try something else?
Ultimately the film is about committing to something. To an idea, a place, a relationship, grief, aphilosophy, family, a tall tale, loss, love, a joke, a friend or simply trying to make it through the day.
